Ontario’s Blue Box regulation is due to be fully implemented by Jan. 1, 2026. The regulation, which makes producers accountable and financially responsible for their products and packaging, addresses serious issues with the old framework and will mean better economic and environmental outcomes for Ontarians.
Meanwhile, some organizations are proposing last-minute changes that could backslide program performance, stagnate innovation, and increase costs, at a time when Ontarians are deeply concerned about cost of living.
MARCO wrote to Minister Todd McCarthy, Environment, Conservation and Parks, to support implementing the Blue Box program as planned and ask him to reject proposals that would make environmental outcomes worse or increase costs for Ontarians. Read the letter here.
